Course Overview

NEBDN Diploma in Dental Nursing qualification is to prepare trainee dental nurses in the foundations of dental nursing, so they can demonstrate the highest standards in terms of knowledge, skills and professional attributes. The skills you will gain upon completion of the qualification are described within the extensive curriculum under the domains of Clinical, Communication, Professionalism, Management and Leadership.

Course Fee :£1650 per year (Plus an additional examination fee of £485)

Course Information

On completion of this qualification, students can register with GDC (General Dental Council) UK. As a registered Dental Nurse, opportunities are available to work as a Dental Nurse with NHS or with Private Dental Surgeries. Dental Nurses can progress to become Dental Hygienists and Dental Therapists.
  • Students who wish to undertake the Diploma in Dental Nursing should:
    • Have at least 18 years old and legally allowed to work in the UK.
    • Have GCSE English Grade C or above (equivalent qualifications accepted including function skills/key skills). Please contact us if you do not meet this requirement as we can complete a formal initial assessment for literacy.
    • Be working in a dental practice at the start of the course with a GDC registered supervisor who has agreed to act as your witness for your Record of Experience.
    • Have a current Enhanced DBS certificate.
    • Have the required vaccinations or evidence that you are currently undergoing the vaccination process.
  • Applicants should have GCSE English grade c or equivalent. Applicants can complete a formal initial assessment for literacy if you do not meet the required English requirement.

The course covers the full NEBDN curriculum and complies with the GDC’s guidance on Student Fitness to Practice. As a trainee dental nurse, you will need to be in placement or work for a minimum of 16 hours per week over the duration of your course to complete your written electronic Record of Experience (eRoE) and you can of course work full time if you wish.

NEBDN Diploma in Dental Nursing: 1 year (Part-Time)

We allocate 3 hour weekly sessions, normally on Saturdays. Face to Face deliveries or blended learning facilities will be provided by Academia Consultants during this period. Students need to be in work or placement for 16 hours per week during this course.

In order to achieve this qualification successfully, students need to demonstrate a depth of knowledge, understanding and skill in each unit.

The qualification comprises of a formative workplace assessment – the Record of Experience, which enables the workplace team to become an integral part of the training of the trainee dental nurse.

The summative assessment comprises a written and practical component aimed at assessing knowledge and decision making to demonstrate trainee dental nurses’ understanding and competence. The summative assessment also adheres to current educational best practices.

Dental Nursing practice is integral to the entire programme. Through this, students will demonstrate the highest standards in terms of knowledge, skills and professional attributes.

Trainee Dental Nurses will have to evidence 16 hours per week of practice hours. Work placed mentors/teams will observe and sign your Record of Experiences.

Internal Moderators are responsible for Moderating the RoE/RoC in line with the Centres sampling strategy, Quality Management System and Quality Process Internal Moderation will be consistent, fair and without discrimination. NEBDN undertakes an external moderation exercise to ensure quality of the assessment. Academia Consultants follows all assessment-related policies of NEBDN before claiming the final certification.

Course completion enables graduates to register as a qualified Dental Care Professional with the GDC and work in a dental practice.
